Terms of Service
Last updated: 29 August 2026 · Version 1.2
Rookport is an online game operated from Québec, Canada by Zen Solutions ("we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, don't create an account.
These terms are written to be read, not to be impressive. If something here is unclear, ask: matpay@zen-solutions.net.
1. Rookport is in alpha — expect it to break
Rookport is unfinished software under active development. That is not a disclaimer, it's the actual state of the thing:
- Features will change, break, and be removed. Numbers get rebalanced constantly.
- Your progress can be lost. We take reasonable care with the game world, but we do not guarantee that any character, item, building, cash balance, or piece of progress will survive a bug, a deploy, a data loss, or a decision to reset the world.
- The game is played in rounds, and every round deliberately wipes material progress — cash, gear, vehicles, crew and property — by design. See the in-game wiki for how rounds work.
- We may reset the world during alpha without notice if development requires it.
The game is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
2. You must be 14 or older
Rookport depicts organized crime — violence, theft and coercion — as fiction. You must be at least 14 years old to hold an account.
Why 14: we operate from Québec, where the law says a person 14 or older can consent to the handling of their own personal information, while anyone younger needs a parent or guardian to consent for them. We have no way to collect and verify parental consent, so 14 is the youngest we can honestly accept. If we learn an account holder is under 14, we will close the account and delete the associated personal information.
3. One person, one account
One account per person. One character per account. This is a core rule of the game, not a formality: the economy, player-versus-player fairness, family size limits and the end-of-round rewards all assume it.
Running more than one account is forbidden, and we may ban every account involved — including the original. If you think you have a legitimate reason for a second account (a shared household, for instance), contact us before creating it rather than after we notice.
We may use signals such as IP address, session activity and account behaviour to identify likely duplicate accounts. These signals are probabilistic, so a match raises a flag for review rather than triggering an automatic ban, and you can appeal any decision by writing to us.
4. No bots, no automation
Play with your hands. The following are forbidden:
- Scripting, macroing or automating any part of the game — farming actions, recruiting, attacking, trading.
- Using any tool that plays on your behalf or gives you a speed or reaction advantage a person could not have.
- Exploiting bugs for gain instead of reporting them. Report them on the in-game boards — that's what they're for, and finding a good one is appreciated, not punished.
- Attacking the service itself: probing for vulnerabilities, overwhelming it with requests, or trying to access other players' accounts or data.
Detected automation can lead to rolled-back progress, suspension, or a ban.
5. Conduct — chat and the boards
Rookport has in-character chat and out-of-character boards. Threats, betrayal and trash talk between characters are part of the game. The following are not, anywhere:
- Harassment, hate speech, or abuse targeting a real person or group — including on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or age.
- Sexual content involving minors, in any form. This results in an immediate permanent ban and, where required, a report to authorities.
- Threats of real-world violence, doxxing, or publishing anyone's personal information.
- Illegal content, malware, or links to either.
- Spam, advertising, or scams — including anything offering to sell accounts, currency or items for real money.
We may remove any content and suspend or ban any account, at our discretion, to keep the game usable. Moderation is done by a very small team; it will be imperfect and inconsistent. You can flag content in-game, and you can appeal a decision by email.
6. Your account
You are responsible for your password and for anything done through your account. Use a password you don't use elsewhere. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
You can delete your account at any time, yourself, from Character → Your account in the game — you will be asked for your password, and it takes effect immediately. You can also email us and we will do it for you.
Deleting removes your login, your boss and his history, your portrait and any photo you uploaded. Two things deliberately do not vanish: every building your boss owned goes back to the city rather than being destroyed (a departing player shouldn't punch holes in the map), and anything you posted on the boards stays with your name taken off it — deleting a bug report would take its answer away from the players still reading it. The Privacy Notice says exactly what is removed and what is kept.
On suspensions. If we suspend or ban an account, the player is told why, which rule it was, when it lifts if it is temporary, and how to appeal — shown on screen the moment they try to sign in. We will not lock somebody out without saying so.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we may stop operating Rookport entirely — it's a game in development, not a service you're paying for.
7. Money
Rookport is free to play today. There is nothing to buy, and we do not currently process payments.
We intend to add optional paid extras later — things like extra actions, cosmetic options and re-rolling your character's portrait. If and when that happens, these terms will be updated first and the pricing and refund rules will be stated plainly.
There are no real-money prizes. In-game money and items have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for anything outside the game, and may be removed or changed at any time. Selling or buying accounts, characters or in-game property for real money is forbidden.
8. Content and ownership
The game — its code, art, writing, city, characters and name — belongs to us.
Text you post in chat or on the boards remains yours. By posting it you give us permission to display it inside the game and on the public parts of the site, and to keep it as part of the game's record. You can delete your own posts. Bug reports may be quoted in development notes and changelogs.
Don't upload anything you don't have the right to.
9. Changes to these terms
We will update these terms as the game grows. The version and date at the top change with them, and material changes will be announced in-game on the boards. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the new version.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Québec and the applicable laws of Canada. Disputes go to the courts of Québec.
